As a child growing up in Wisconsin, my family did not have money for vacations or long trips.  But we spent many, many wonderful times at the zoo, the lake, the park, the woods and pretty waysides where we could explore and play. We explored Wisconsin, one day at a time.  My mother always brought along a wicker picnic basket.  Generally, it was the same food we ate at home, only it tasted so much better.  Both of my parents are gone now, but I treasure my memories of our outings.

Note about Heading Picture:  This picture is of two ice fishing shanties on Green Lake in Wisconsin taken 12/25/09.  Two days earlier it was cold and snowy so I could not get a good picture.  When I returned on Christmas it was warmer and the shanties look as if they are practically floating on water.  Hope they do not sink but I'm sure there will be more snow and cold weather soon.  Credit for this picture goes to my daughter-in-law, Ada.
